MEET GENERAL MANAGER DAVID MONTELPARE

David Montelpare is a lifelong coach and youth mentor with more than 15 years of experience developing young athletes. An Oakville native, David first discovered his passion for coaching as a high school student with the Minor Oaks Hockey Association, where that early experience laid the foundation for a long and dedicated career in youth sports leadership.

After graduating from McMaster University with a B. Eng in Material Science & Engineering, David transitioned into competitive coaching in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), where he spent eight years as a Head Coach with North Toronto. He led teams from U12 to U16 in both A and AA divisions, earning tournament wins and playoff success while fostering a strong team culture built on discipline, accountability, and personal growth. His coaching style blends structured development plans, personalized goal setting, and positive relationships to teach technical skills and game IQ. Outside the GTHL, David has also served as a Lead Instructor at Hockey Opportunity Camp and Edge Power Skating, specializing in skating mechanics and skill development.

In 2023, David joined TOP Sports as a Head Coach in TOP Hockey and quickly became a key contributor to the organization’s growth. He now serves as the General Manager of TOP Sports Oakville, where he leads program development, staff management, and long-term planning across all sports. Prior to joining TOP Sports full-time, David spent 11 years at Canadian Tire Corp. (CTC) as a Project Manager, overseeing large-scale infrastructure and cross-functional operations including distribution centres, logistics, analytics, transportation, reporting, and more.

Combining a deep passion for youth development with strong organizational leadership, David is committed to creating a positive, structured environment where athletes can thrive in sports and beyond. Tom Waud

Technical Director, TOP Soccer

Tom is a native of London, England where he graduated from the University of Worcester with a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Sport and Exercise Science. Tom currently holds a Children's License and Youth License from Canada Soccer, as well as his Canada 'C' Coaching License, FA Level Two, CONCACAF 'B' License, and is a certified NCCP Coach Evaluator. Tom has a 10+ years of high-school teaching experience in England, and worked previously at North Toronto Soccer Club.

Bennett Drake

Bennett Drake

Technical Director, TOP Lacrosse

Bennett has been the Technical Director of TOP Lacrosse since 2023 after a lengthy playing career at the University of Albany Division 1 lacrosse team, where he led the team to 4x NCAA tournament appearances, 3x 'Elite 8' appearances, and 3x America East Championships. Bennett also currently serves as the Director of Scouting, Video Coordinator, and U.S. Scout for the Ottawa Black Bears in the National Lacrosse League, and holds coaching certifications through the National Coaching Certification Program and Hockey Canada.

Known to just about everyone as Cass, Cassandra brings 20+ years of camp experience to her role as Director of TOP Sports Camps. Before joining TOP, she spent over a decade at Onondaga Camp as Assistant Director of Camp Life, where she managed day-to-day programming, camper wellness, risk management, and a team of 150+ seasonal staff. Cass is a calm, community-first leader with a genuine gift for making every camper and staff member feel supported and seen.

Amber oversees our year-round sports camps and recreational programs and is the epitome of what rec sports should be all about! Her infectious energy, positivity, and passion set the tone each day! Amber is an avid athlete and brings over a decade's worth of youth sports coaching experience to help our young athletes learn and grow.

In addition to her role as Assistant Director of TOP Sports Camps, Amber also serves as Grassroots Program Coordinator, overseeing the TOP Soccer and TOP Hockey recreation programs.
